It loves me? It loves me not? It loves me? Our relationship with coffee can feel like a back and forth romantic drama of bad-and-good for us all at once. And now, more evidence that coffee loves you, well, sort of. A new study suggests coffee drinkers live longer than non-coffee drinkers.

A new study published in the journal Public Health Review sheds shocking light on the quality of restaurant menu items served at the nation's most popular restaurant chains. The findings concluded that most menu items lack compliance with the USDA's recommended daily intakes of calories, fats and sodium.

A "conspiracy" between corporate agribusiness and the USDA is being dubbed "The Organic Watergate" by the nation's leading organic farming watchdog, The Cornucopia Institute.

The USDA recently released an agency-conducted study comparing the costs of healthy food versus processed junk foods high in fat, sugar and salt, and found that despite the myth that healthy foods typically cost more, they actually do not.

More evidence shows that excessive sugar consumption leads to health problems as new research published in the Journal of Physiology shows a strong connection between sugar and the brain's ability to learn and remember.

With nearly half of all fish consumed in the U.S. originating on fish farms, concerns have heightened over the environmental issues associated with the practice. And a new report released by the Wild Salmon Center implicates salmon hatcheries in connection with damage to wild salmon populations.

Resveratrol, the potent antioxidant found in red grapes and wine?along with chocolate, nuts and tomatoes?may hold a key in treating Alzheimer's disease, the fatal illness with no known cure and few effective treatments in easing the symptoms that currently affect more than 5 million Americans.

News that the nation's obesity problem could balloon to more than 40 percent of the population in the next two decades has brought doubt to many of the recent efforts to impart healthier eating and exercise habits, particularly on children, and has led to some harsher tactics, like a recent ad campaign launched in Georgia.

Unbelievable news has surfaced out of South Korea as customs officials made the recent discovery of thousands of capsules filled with powdered human flesh imported from China, believed to be a "cure-all."

No, it's not Morgan Spurlock's latest movie stunt. But if you feel like you can't live without getting a daily dose (or several) of fast food meals from McDonald's, Taco Bell, KFC, Burger King or Pizza Hut, then there is some potentially good news for you coming out of Washington University. Researchers at the St. Louis, MO-based university are looking for individuals who are willing to eat nothing but fast food for three whole months.

You may already know the folk tale of Stone Soup: A hungry traveler comes to town with an empty pot, fills it with water, drops a stone in it, and tells the villagers he will make delicious soup with just the stone...all the soup needs is "a few garnishes", which the villagers happily provide. In the end, there's enough soup to feed everyone, and it only took a few odds and ends from each person.

Chances are that you won?t make it through the holiday season without encountering at least one cold glass of eggnog. The spiked egg and milk cocktail dates back to 17th century Europe, where it was enjoyed as an indulgent upper class drink. Today, it?s been diluted down to little more than cheap, sugary milk with artificial flavorings and additives?most commercial eggnog doesn?t even have real eggs in it. Fortunately, it?s incredibly simple to make the real deal?in the traditional style?in ...
Move over blackberries! Mulberries are in town and they are begging for a picking. Mulberry - also known as Morus fruit - comes from the same tree used to raise silkworms, where the worms feed off the plant's leaves. The fruit, similar to blackberry, is an aggregate fruit that is composed of many smaller fruits called drupes. So, botanically-speaking, it's not a berry... but otherwise, it is. The skin is smooth and fragile, and the color changes from green to red to dark purple as it matures...

Like many people, you probably vacillate between eating mostly a healthy diet and sneaking in a few treats here and there. This salad combines the best of both worlds and will please the angel and the demon on each of your shoulders.
From a scientific name that means "most useful," flax earns its status as a health food staple, especially for vegetarians and vegans looking for those ever-elusive omega-3s. Flax seeds are a smidgen larger than sesame seeds and can be brown or golden with a smooth and shiny shell. The warm, earthy and subtly nutty flavor of flaxseeds combined with an abundance of omega-3 fatty acids make them an increasingly popular addition to the diets of many a health conscious consumer. You can find fla...

For all of us jumping back onto the fat wagon, Flax Oil is one to be reckoned with (one of those 'good' fats). It's long been revered for its healing properties - growing for some 7,000 years in Southern Mesopotamia! According to ancient folklore, the seeds were crushed and blended with mustard to make a poultice for inflamed skin, as well as used to regulate the bowels and as an antidote for poisoning. And: Did you know that Flax Oil and Linseed Oil are the same thing? But, you certainly sh...
Squash blossoms stem from, you guessed it, squashes. The flowers from either summer or winter squash are edible and delicious, known as squash blossoms and available in varying shades of yellow and orange. Their flavor is light and airy - as the blossoms are themselves - and hint of the squash from whence it came. Squash blossoms can be used for much more than pretty garnish; they are large enough for all manner of cooking, including stuffing!
